Antique 19th century Dutch Walnut Armoire / Bookcase.

A$18,975.00

On offer is a most impressive, very rare, excellent quality, well proportioned and of monumental size, genuine antique Dutch 19th century mid 1800s Cabinet on Chest ( Armoire / Book Case ) in the earlier Dutch Rococo style.

It is constructed from heavy and strong European solid Oak, finished in selected, very well figured, decorative honey coloured Walnut Burl and embellished in applied Ebonised moldings and carvings including flowers, ribbons/ bows, floral swags and classic urns. The cabinet also features its original hand French polished finish now nicely mellowed and all its original cast bronze brass hardware including keyhole escutcheons and draw pull handles and locks.

The cabinet comes in two sections and the hinged doors lift off and the drawers and shelves come out to make moving and transporting easier.

The top cabinet has a domed top embellished with a substantial carved urn for a crest carving and with trailing carved flowers either side, has straight vertical sides and has serpentine shaped front doors also embellished with applied carved and Ebonised motifs and moldings including flowers ,urns, ribbons/bows and floral swags. When opened the doors reveal an interior with full width shelves and a bottom row of side by side drawers.

The lower Commode / Chest of Drawers section is of ‘bombe’ shape and has four tiers of drawers with perimeter cock beading. At the top there are two side by side Oak lined drawers with serpentine shaped fronts each with cast Bronze / Brass drawer pull handles. Beneath are three serpentine shaped complimentary full width graduated and stacked drawers once again complete with original locks, keyhole escutcheons and drawer pull hardware.

The whole stands on impressive large carved animal paw feet. The hardware may be gilded for an extra wow factor.

Condition: This piece currently requires some over all relatively minor conservation and detailing which will be carried out by a professional restorer and this cost is included in the price. Or the piece may be purchased at a lesser price if you have your own preferred restorer to do the work.

Size: Height 275cm x Width 190cm x Depth 75cm.

Price: $18,975 includes conservation. Similar sized and quality cabinets to this if you can find them on overseas web sites often command prices around $35,000 plus. I have an image of a smaller sized cabinet of comparable quality offered for sale in the U.S.A. for AUD $71,000.

Sellers Observation: I doubt that you will find another one like this in this country as it is big bold and beautiful.
