This is a very good and most attractive genuine antique English 1870s inlaid Walnut two door Display Cabinet or Side Cabinet of rectangular form. It may also be used as a book case or a Drinks CabinetThe overhanging top is ‘book leaf’ matched with golden honey coloured figured Walnut. below the top is a curved cornice and below are a pair of timber framed glaze panelled doors with rounded top corners. Within the cabinet is a fabric lined interior with a full width shelf. Other shelves could be made and fitted if required. The cabinet sits on a protruding plynth base which has a shaped front apron.
the narrow vertical panels either side of the doors have applied top and bottom cast brass decorative mounts in the French manner. The door also has a French style mounted key hole escutcheon. The top, cornice, both doors and the panels either side of the doors all have complimentary crossbanding with fine line inlays. The cornice outer door panels and the doors are further embellished with bold and colourful parquetry floral and foliate parquetry inlays.
The cabinet is complete with a key.
Condition: Over all excellent for age as it has been recently professionally refurbished by the previous owner at considerable expense. There are minor repairs to the veneers on the base at the sides which is not uncommon.
