Antique English Victorian period Walnut mirror back marble top Credenza.
Antique English Victorian period Walnut mirror back marble top Credenza.
Antiques may all be old and technically over 100 years old however that just means that they survived over time but does not mean that they are quality or ever where quality as the “Devil is always in the detail”. This is a lovely example as the age quality proportion style materials used and detail are all present in this beautiful little Credenza which may be used in a lounge room or dining room as a side cabinet or in an entrance vestibule or hallway.
The backboard consists of an original mirror plate within a carved embellished solid Walnut ‘show timber’ frame with decorative fully pierced crest carving balanced by supplementary side carvings. The cabinet has an original white Carrara Marble top which is serpentine shaped on the front and has a lamb tongue edge molding. This compliments the shape of the frieze section directly beneath the marble.
The cabinet is straight fronted and is of rectangular form with pronounced cantered corners embellished both top and bottom with applied carved corbels The two doors conceal a storage area with a full width shelf and are finished in superb ‘book leaf’ matched highly figured Walnut burl of excellent colour and each door has a mirrored oval panel with a raised perimeter molding and quality floral and foliate carvings both top and bottom.
The whole is on a serpentine shaped plinth base which complements the serpentine shaped frieze section.
