This is an excellent quality grand and most impressive genuine antique french Armoire from the province of Normandy made in the late 1700s or early 1800s from solid prestigious and keenly sought after Cherry wood of lovely mid to deep warm honey colour.
Armoires were general storage cabinets and were often located in several rooms of the house depending on storage requirements.
It featured a typical Normandy curved arched top, a pair of full height doors with flowing shaped recessed panels with edge molding in the Louis XV manner also with brass escutcheons and hinges. The whole supported on short cabriole legs connected by a front shaped apron. The sides are also feature recessed plain rectangular panels.
The interior has a pair of full width shelves and a bottom pair of side by side drawers with iron loop drawer pull handles.There is a wide drawer plus a narrower drawer which have a ‘secret’ storage space beneath them and they are particiually enclosed by a shelf immediately above them. There are also three 18th century thick boards / planks to make up another shelf if required.
Complete with its key and original iron lock.
Condition: Excellent commensurate with age and use.and with an excellent patina.

Sellers Observation: This is structurally very sound and is a very good example of its type as items may be stored on shelves or it can be easily fitted for hanging clothes.
For transporting the cornice lifts off as do the doors and the drawers plus shelves are removable.
