Antique English 18th century George III Cuban Mahogany Chest of Drawers.

A$2,995.00

This is a very good genuine antique Georgian Chest of Drawers. Firstly it is from the last quarter of the 18th century / 1700s. Secondly the case is constructed from the best of the solid Mahoganies from Cuba. Cuban Mahogany is extremely dense and heavy. The drawer secondary timbers are of lighter Pine. The Chest is very well made, is well proportioned and is in remarkable virtually original condition for its age.

The top is slightly overhanging and has a good attractive edge molding. There are five drawers in all including two side by side drawers and beneath are three full width graduated in depth. All drawers are complete with their locks and have original all brass bale drawer pull handles and a fine outer cock bead molding.

Condition: excellent near original. Two brass keyhole escutcheons are deficient and we will have them replaced by escutcheons cast from an original. This piece will wax polish and buff up very nicely and will have a lovely patina.

Size: Width 103cm x Depth x 55cm x Height 93cm.

Price: Was $3,500 due to age, quality, style and originality……Sale Price $2,995.

Sellers Observation: Good early quality chests like this are becoming harder and harder to find as they are tightly held and don’t often come onto the open market.
