Antique English Georgian inlaid Mahogany serpentine Chest of Drawers.....SOLD

Make no mistake as this chest of drawers is a little bit special. not only is it a very superior quality genuine antique English later 1700s Georgian period Chest of Drawers however it is of the rare serpentine fronted form. The easiest chests to make had straight fronts then those a little more difficult and more expensive were the bow fronted chests. Finally the most time consuming and difficult to make and there for much more expensive were those with serpentine shaped fronts and due to the much greater costs far fewer were commissioned to be made.

This very superior quality and genuine antique English later 1700s Georgian period Chest of Drawers is made from the best quality prestigious imported Cuban Mahogany. The chest top, full width graduated drawers and base are all of serpentine form. Most chests are plain and not inlaid. only the best were embellished with a full cross banded top with an additional oval flame mahogany panel both with supplementary line inlays. This cross banding and line inlays are continued on all of the drawer fronts. All drawers are Oak lined and have cock bead outer moldings their original iron locks plus later replaced period style cast brass drawer pull handles. Inside the chest between each drawer are full depth dust catchers which you usually only get on the better quality chests and the chest stands on flat vertical bracket feet.

Condition: Basically structurally sound however it is in desirably original condition with a few small repairs and losses mainly to the cross banding which now may be professionally restored / refurbished to taste if required.

Sellers Observation: These are rare and prestigious chests these days and usually command considerably higher prices so this ‘high end’ example is excellent buying. There is currently another similar chest like this restored and offered for nearly $7,000 and it is just the lesser version as it is not inlaid nor cross banded. You can have this better inlaid serpentine Chest of Drawers fully professionally for less.
