This is a highly decorative and practical genuine antique English 18th century ( 1700s ) Chest of Drawers constructed from solid Oak primaries and Pine secondaries ( drawer bottoms and rear boards. ) The chest is very well proportioned and has two short side by side top drawers and three lower full width graduated drawers. The drawer fronts have been finished with raised geometric panels and moldings so as to appear as an earlier Charles the II piece. The sides are panelled and there is an upper inverted horizontal profiled molding under the top and a complimentary lower horizontal molding above the feet. The whole is raised on straight bracket feet.

Furniture was often embellished for practical reasons as if someone had furnished with earlier Charles the II pieces and required a Chest of Drawers without telephones, internet and motor vehicles it was difficult to get around neighboring villages by horse and cart on dirt roads to find one so local cabinet makers would embellish an existing piece or even make a reproduction and age it. This is a genuine Georgian Country piece with later embellishments added so as to appear as a Charles II piece.

Some of the brass handles are missing however a set may be ordered from Optimum Brasses who are an English foundry and produce absolutely authentic copies of original handles for furniture just like this and there are several suitable period handles to select from.

We are just selling this on behalf of an old client who is downsizing and cannot fit it into his new smaller home.
