Antique English Victorian period circa 1865 Walnut inlaid Writing Table.
Antique English Victorian period circa 1865 Walnut inlaid Writing Table.
This is a rather nice Writing Table that could also be used as a Side Table. The top is basically ‘kidney’ shaped with a green leather inset writing surface surrounded by a honey coloured well figured Walnut burl which is embellished by a fine line inlay and two good stylised flower vine and leaf marquetry inlays in Satinwood or a fruit wood..
The top is supported by a pair of end positioned well turned and detailed columns which sit on small vertical cylindrical bases from which flow short shaped and tapered french cabriole legs which terminate in brass and white porcelain castor assemblies. The bases are connected by a nicely turned stretcher.
Condition: The timber work is good and just needs a clean and a wax polish. The leather is good and not excellent. We can have it replaced with the colour of your choice with quality gold tooling at a very reasonable cost.
