Antique French carved oak Writing Desk.

A$0.00

This is an impressive, most decorative and practical genuine antique French last quarter of the 19th century ( 1800s ) Semi Pedestal Desk that is finished all round so it may be free standing in a room and does not necessarily have to go up against a wall.

The desk is constructed from nicely figured and coloured solid French Oak and is profusely carved embellished in the Henri II Gothic Revival manner.

The rectangular top has a carved perimeter molding and is recessed for a fabric or leather writing surface. The desk has a wide centre kneehole drawer and a pair of stacked smaller drawers on each side. In fact one pair of drawers are actually one faux deep drawer with a lockable section within. All drawer fronts have recessed panels with raised stylised folate carving and each drawer has its original locks and the desk comes with an original key. The cantered corners of the desk feature bold carved ‘Mask Heads.” Below the Mask Heads are elegant turned and tapered legs embellished with reeded flanges at the top and lower fluted shafts.

Condition: Timber and finish is excellent. The writing surface would benefit from being replaced which we can organise for the buyer. An inset leather writing surface ( colour of your choice ) with 24 kt gold tooling would really make the desk spectacular.

Size: Width 130cm x Depth 70cm x Height 75cm.

Price: Was $3,750 now $3,250

Sellers Observation: This is an impressive desk and is one of the better ones of its kind.
