Antique French later 19th century inlaid Amboyna Secretaire a battant.
Antique French later 19th century inlaid Amboyna Secretaire a battant.
This is an excellent example of a most attractive later 19th century genuine antique French Secretaire a battant which is a most decorative and useful piece of furniture. This better quality example is finished in fabulous highly figured Amboyna panels surrounded by an Ebonised framing.
Beneath the removable white marble top is a vertical cabinet comprising of a top full width drawer, a drop front bureau with a well fitted interior of a shelf and four drawers and an inset leather writing surface. Below are four more full width stacked drawers and the whole is supported on a shaped plynth base complete with its flat bun feet at the front and squared flat feet at the rear.
All the front panels are superbly embellished with a raised gilt molding to the outer edge and within is an outer Ebonised border banding. Within the Amboyna panels there are feature inlaid lines of a geometric pattern comprising of Mother of P earl and Ebony shapes all with super fine brass framing inlaid into a banding of Kingwood which in turn has both inner and outer fine Ebony line inlays. Absolutely stunning.
