Antique French last quarter of the 19th century Louis XVI style Writing Table / Desk.
This is a very high quality French later 1800s Louis XVI style Writing Table / Desk.
The Writing Table is of rectangular form with a frieze which houses a pair of side by side flush fitted drawers.
The top and frieze are basically rectangular with curved ends. the top has a gold tooled inset leather writing surface and a gilt cast brass edge molding as does the front of the frieze section. the top and frieze have parquetry banding of Coromandel with Fruit wood and Walnut inner and outer bandings. The Coromandel panels have abstract designs and line inlays in Ivory. On both drawer fronts and on either curved ends are quality crisp cast gilt Bronze decorative mounts.
The turned and tapered fluted legs are Ebonised and have intermittant complimentary walnut sections, terminate in all brass castor assemblies and are embellished with both upper and lower ‘rings of beads’ also referred to as ‘string of pearls'.
Condition: Over all excellent for age and use. the veneers and inlays are perfect however some of the gilding has been worn through use of almost a century and a half however as a service we can organise to have the worn pieces re gilded which would reintroduce the original ‘bling’ factor. The leather is original and very good however not perfect. If one preferred to change the leather to a colour of ones preference with decorative real gold tooling we can provide that service at a trade price.
