Antique early to mid Victorian 1850s Mahogany Book Case.
Make no mistake this is a very superior quality example of a genuine antique antique early to mid Victorian two height Book Case. The cabinets are well crafted from quality solid Mahogany parts have then been finished in selected decorative nicely figured feature Mahogany veneers.
At the top is a very well profiled cornice comprising of both ‘S’ and ‘C’ shaped profiles.
The tall upper Display Cabinet as a quality inclusion has a central vertical support which is hidden when the doors are closed however it allows for shorter shelves which may be staggered if required and of course smaller shelves wont bend as some full width shelves do. The glazed panels are overlaid at the top with a trio of ‘C’ shaped scrolls forming an arch. applied to the top outer corners of the doors are long elaborately carved and scrolled corbels. As an indication of quality the inner door surfaces and the central divider are polished and the inner door moldings are screwed rather than nailed.
The shorter lower Storage Cabinet has a canter levering frieze section with two flush side by side drawers which pull open from beneath. The two blind paneled doors have book leaf matched a raised arched molding and complimentary applied carved corbels to compliment the top door corbels. When opened the doors reveal a full width shelf.
