This is a very good genuine antique last quarter of the 19th century English Victorian period well proportioned and extremely well constructed combination Book Case / Display Cabinet and Desk.

This piece features superior construction from fashionable light ‘honey’ coloured solid English Oak.

The ‘Upper Display / Book Case Cabinet’ has an attractive and well profiled cornice and a pair of full height glazed panel doors with raised moldings and rounded top corners. Within there are three original thick full width adjustable height shelves. The inside of the cabinet and the back of the doors have been polished such is the quality of the cabinet.

The ‘Lower Desk and Storage Cabinet’ has two distinct sections.

The ‘middle ‘frieze section’ has a Cylinder top Secretaire Desk with a pull out writing slide. With the writing slide pushed in and the cylinder lid closed and locked the contents are secured. The desk itself has a very well fitted interior with a rear bank of pigeon holes above four side by side drawers. The pull out slide has three gold tooled red leather hinged writing surfaces which each open to reveal concealed storage compartments with the middle one able to be raised so as to form a writing slope or a angled book rest for reading.

The lower ‘storage cabinet’ has a pair of ’blind timber panelled’ doors that compliment the top sections glazed doors and either side are boldly carved French influence ‘S’ shaped carved and folate embellished corbels on full height engaged flat pilasters.

All supported on a protruding plynth base.

Condition: Very good having been previously professionally refurbished a decade or so ago Complete with keys. It will wax polish very nicely.
