This is a good quality example of a genuine antique !9th century Chinese Sewing Box of rectangular octagonal form. The box is finished in black lacquer and then profusely decorated in traditional gilt scenes and floral tracery. The box has end carry handles and is supported on four carved and gilt feet.

The interior is also fully lacquered and has a lift out tray of many shaped compartment, some with lids. The box still contains much of its original Ivory sewing items but not all.

The box also has a well fitted shallow drawer at the lower front which has a decorative hinged lid over the central compartment.

If the sewing items were removed the box with its fitted lift out tray would make a perfect Jewellery Box and or Document Box. it is just a lovely collectable and decorative item.

Condition: Excellent structurally, some external gilding is slightly worn as is to be expected.
