Antique English Georgian revival Mahogany Settee.

A$2,985.00

This is a wonderful ‘decorators delight’ as originals like this are extremely rare and as such command incredible amounts of money.

This is an antique in its own right as it made during the ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’ in the 1920s which saw a trend for opulence and a revival in quality antiques and classic designs. It is a high quality and accurately detailed revival of a genuine Antique English George III period piece from the third quarter of the 1700s and shows the influence of the French Louis XV stylistic details that the English adopted and introduced into their own designs.

The show timber frame is well made from quality prestigious imported Central American Mahogany and retains its original hand French polished finish which will clean and wax up very nicely. The frame has all the correct features of proportion and decorative detail. The high back is correctly shaped as are the serpentine shaped side seat rails. The front seat rail is straight with a shaped lower edge and is supported by three boldy shaped and tapered exquisitely carved embellished cabriole legs terminating in classic Chippendale influenced ball and claw feet. The two rear legs are shaped and tapered.

The seat has an excellent machined ‘floral and foliate’ tapestry upholstery with a studded finish. The back is padded and the seat webbed and padded. The fabric is in excellent condition however it is not an overly expensive exercise to have covered to taste if required.

Condition: Near excellent commensurate with age and use. one joint is loose and will be reglued plus minor attention is required to a small section of the webbing beneath..

Size: Width 126cm x Seat Depth 47cm x Height 113cm.

Price: Was $3,500……….Sale Price $2,985.

Sellers Observation: A rare and very stylish design and would be a feature piece in a room plus it is in great condition for its age.
