These are a good quality pair of genuine antique English mid 19th century 1850-1855 Victorian period Ladies and Gentlemans chairs which may be used as a pair or used in separate rooms as the ladies chair is perfect as a slipper chair in a bedroom. The show timber frames are made from quality solid walnut of mellow honey colour and in the popular French Louis XV manner. The French would refer to the chair with the open arms as a Fauteuil. The chair frames have tall waisted backs with matching decorative crest carvings. On the arm chair the waisted back flows down into the open arm ( hence Fauteuil / open arm ) which is padded and has a shaped hand grip and then flows downward in a serpentine manner past the carved embellished knees and into the cabriole front legs. The side seat rails are curved and the front seat rail has a central decorative carving and is of serpentine form also flows in to the front cabriole legs. The ladies chair retains its original all brass castor assemblies which helps date the time of manufacture.

Both chairs have full height upholstered back panels for comfort and the seats are sprung with traditional hand rolled and stitched edges for support.

Condition: The frames are in sound original condition and retain the original hand French polish. The chairs are covered in velvet however differing colours with one pale blue and one green.

Recommendation: Have the frames cleaned and refurbished plus as the upholstery is good just a recover to taste.
