A superb 18th c Paris horloge manteau showing beautifully patinated mercury gilding. A rectangular base on four toupie feet with acanthus border and rosettes, the domed black and white dial with hours marked in Roman & minutes in Arabic numerals surrounded by a running guilloche. The whole of the case in finely chased ormolu surmounted with a Putti & Spaniel floating in clouds. The brass two train movement stamped both "717" and Gille Lainè and inscribed a166a with lever escapement and count wheel striking on the bell.
