Antique English George IV / William IV Set of 8 Mahogany Dining Chairs by Gillows and Co
A very substantial and superior quality Set of Eight genuine Antique English later George IV / William IV circa 1830 Dining Chairs made from the finest quality prestigious imported dense and heavy Cuban Mahogany by the renowned firm of Gillows of Lancaster. Gillows are commonly regarded as one of the greatest of all the English furniture makers, established in the 1730's they remained in business until the end of the 1st World War. These chairs are of transitional design with upholstered padded semi kidney shaped backs. The ‘show timber’ frames have subtle carved decoration to the ‘kidney’ shaped top rail and the rear uprights. The straight seat rails which are profiled and the front turned and tapered legs have a long boldly reeded mid section while the rear legs are of sabre form.
These are heavy and substantial chairs with generous sized seats and that the former owner has had fully professionally refurbished at considerable expense. Only the cover fabric may be required to be changed to suite a new owners requirements
