Antique English Set of 6 Victorian Mahogany Dining Chairs In The Athenian Style
A good quality and genuine Antique English Victorian ( 1850s / 1860s ) Set of Six Dining Chairs and the generously sized stylish 'show timber' frames are well crafted from selected imported prestigious Central American Mahogany with a ‘classic' Greek Athenian’ influence with the curved back uprights flowing into the seat rails rather than continuing down into the rear saber legs. This design style was influenced by those doing what was known as the 'grand tour' of the antique world. The chairs have a curved and arched top rail with a stylised Lyre shaped pierced central vertical splat. The chairs also have a French influence with the curved seat rails on either side and the front rail of serpentine form. The front legs are turned and downward tapered terminating in original brass and white porcelain castor assemblies.
Condition: The timber chair frames are in very good condition as is the original hand french polished finish commensurate with age and now of mellowed colour and good patina. The upholstery probably requires recovering to taste which we can organise with one of Sydneys best upholsters and at a trade price..
Size: Width: 50 cm x Height: 83 cm x Seat Depth: 50 cm.
Price: Were $2,995 the set now reduced to $2,395.
Sellers Observation: Most attractive - excellent quality - generously sized seats means comfortable Dining Chairs.
