Antique English William IV Set of 6 Rosewood Dining Chairs,
Exceptional quality set of six genuine antique English William IV dining chairs circa 1835 with imported prestigious, exotic Central American Rosewood timber ‘show frames’ and hand caned seats. The curved top rail and lower bar backs are carved embellished in the Egyptian taste. The lower waist rail also features an incoming French influence with opposed 'S' shaped scrolls. The front legs are turned and downward tapered and reeded while the rear legs are of sabre form. The seat rails are straight with raised round patera on the front corners.
Condition: These chairs are in excellent and desirable near original condition. The cane has been replaced at a later stage. Tie on seat cushions ( called squabs) can be custom made and upholstered to taste and we can organise this on a purchasers behalf.

The Egyptian influence came about as a result of the education of privileged young gentleman doing the 'Grand Tour' of the antique world of Italy, Greece , Crete and Egypt so as to round of their education and these are the people who brought these design influences back to England.
