These are an absolutely exquisite set of genuine antique later 19th century ( 1800s ) French Dining Chairs of the finest quality. The ‘show timber’ frames are crafted out of the best quality prestigious imported Central American Mahogany as can be assessed by the weight. The set comprises of a pair of end Carver Chairs with open arms ( Fauteuils ) and eight side chairs and all are superbly crafted in the Louis XVI manner by very skilled Chair Makers and them meticulously and profusely carved embellished to an exceptionally high standard.
The backs have an upholstered panel for added comfort and the webbed and padded seats are a generously size.
Condition: All frames are structurally sound and retain the original hand French polished finish which is also in excellent condition. The upholstery has been re done by the previous owner however like any chairs may require recovering to taste.
Provenance: These chairs originally were covered in leather with brass studding and graced the dining room of Bishopscourt at 11a Greenoaks Avenue at Darling Point which was the old Archbishops residence originally designed by J.F. Hilly in 1846 and extended by Edmund Blacket. in 1859.
