Antique English Set of 6 Victorian Rosewood Dining Chairs.
Antique English Set of 6 Victorian Rosewood Dining Chairs.
This is a rare set of six exceptional quality early Victorian set of six Dining Chairs in the elaborate French Louis XV rococo style. The 'show timber' frames are expertly made by a master chair maker from selected imported prestigious Central American / Brazilian Rosewood. The chairs are early Victorian circa 1840s and as such are transitional in style which is evident as the top rail although still overhanging slightly is now integrated into the rear uprights which flow downwards to form the rear sabre legs, The Top rails are beautifully shaped and are carved embellished on the inner shoulders and feature a boldly saw pierced carved centre crest carving in the French Rococo manner. This is complimented by a shaped waist rail comprising of opposed 'C' shaped scrolls with once again a bold saw pierced carving also in the French Louis manner. The seat rails are straight and decoratively panelled. The chairs feature typical French Louis IV shaped and tapering cabriole legs and scrolled feet / toes. The chairs are well and attractively upholstered. Desirably the chairs still retain their original hand French polished finish now nicely mellowed with age.
