Set of ten ( 10 ) Antique English Georgian ( Regency period 1811 - 1820 ) simulated Rosewood Dining Chairs.

A$6,950.00

These are a rare long set of ten genuine antique English Georgian regency period ( 1811 - 1820 ) Dining Chairs with classic Regency features. The show timber frames are made out of solid Beech and were hand grained so as to simulate the prestigious Rosewood.

Rosewood was difficult to acquire as the English were engaged in a war with the invading forces of Frances Napoleon in the Iberian Peninsular. England declared war on France in 1803 which lasted for 10 years and although mainly concentrated in Europe the conflict did spill over into the Atlantic hence the difficulty of obtaining Rosewood Timber from the Central Americas and Brazil.

These chairs show classic influences from the ‘old world’ which were brought back to England by wealthy travellers who did the ‘Grand Tour’ of ancient Italy, Greece, Crete and Egypt.

The seats are hand caned and may have tie on cushions made for height and comfort which we can organise on a purchasers behalf.

Condition: Excellent commensurate with age and use. Two chairs have required re caning which is not unusual due to over 200 years of use and this is being done.

Size: Width 45cm x Seat Depth 40cm x Height 82cm.

Price: Were $895 each however now reduced to $695 per chair - sold as a set of 10.

Sellers Observation: A rare classic style of chair in very good condition and in a very hard to find long set of 10 chairs.
