Top quality and rare mix of European form and Indian craftsmanship.in Colonial furniture. The images say it all as this is a very rare find and a magnificent quality item. A superb example of an exceptionally high quality genuine antique 19th century Northern / Central Indian Artists Easel made from solid Rosewood embellished with the most exquisite and exotic carved detail. including leafy tendrils and flowers plus bold geometric paterns. The easel is 19th century however the arched shapes are in the 17th century architectural manner
The top carved panel reflects Indian Hinduism as it features ‘Lord Indra’ who was the God of ‘climate and weather surrounded by the Suns rays. Indra is in a wheeled chariot pulled by the ‘seven headed horse’ who was the first of all horses in Hindu mythology.
To have such a magnificent easel one would virtually have to have had the probable status of a male Maharaja or at least a Raja. If the easel belonged to a female of very high rank then a Maharani.
