Antique English Victorian Walnut Etagere / What Not Stand.
This is a very high quality example of a genuine antique English mid 19th century circa 1850 Whatnot Stand or as the French would call it an Etagere. it is superbly crafted and detailed from the finest solid walnot and the shelves are finished in selected and book leaf matched highly figured and honey coloured Walnut.
The three tiers are serpentine in form in the French Louis XV manner and have a lamb tongue edge molding each tier has an impressive stylised scrolled saw pierced fretwork panel for decorative purposes and also to stop items falling off the back. Each tier is supported by four elegant turned and nicely profiled columns with carved flattened bulbous turnings that match the top finials. The lower tier has short turned and tapered legs which have the original brass and porcelain castor assemblies.
