A most impressive and genuine Antique French mid nineteenth century large classical three figure bronze subject group.

In classical Greek mythology Boreas the North Wind abducted Orithyia the daughter of Erechtheus the king of Athens. The original of this statue was to be carved in Marble for Charles Le Brunos never completed gardens at the Palace at Versailles. King Louis was so impressed with the original clay model that he commissioned smaller reductions for his Salon Ovale in the Palace. There were further additional limited castings in the late 1700s and in the 1850s. This one is most probably cast in the mid 19th Century. There is an identical bronze in the J P Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the Philadelphia Museum and in the Victoria and Albert Museum collection in London. This is the only one known to be in Australia.
