Antique English early Victorian Period 1850s Walnut Card Table.
Antique English early Victorian Period 1850s Walnut Card Table.
This is a superior quality example of a genuine antique English early Victorian Period 1850s fold over and swivei top Card and Games Table.
The nicely Figured Walnut table top is basically rectangular in form and swivels then folds over on the rectangular frieze section which is a storage compartment for cards and games pieces. The top has a stepped and curved perimeter molding and opens to reveal a woven fabric circular playing surface. The front and sides of the frieze have a lower complementary raised molding comprising of French influence Louis XV style ‘C’ and ‘S’ shaped scrolls with intermittent stylised ‘shell’ carvings. The bold solid Walnut centre support column is nicely profiled and features an impressive carved Tulip above a large carved bulbous turning. Below is a small upright cylindrical base with raised upper and lower moldings from which flow four very decorative outward and downward swept cabriole legs which feature detailed folage carved knees and carved feet with the original all brass castor assemblies beneath.
Apart from Card and Games Tables these tables are very versatile and make excellent Hall Tables and Side Tables. We even have a decorator who loves to use them as Bedside Tables.
