This is a very good and high quality example of a genuine antique English early Victorian Card Table. made between 1845 and 1850 The table is superbly crafted to the highest standards from solid Walnut and the top and apron are finished in selected highly figured and lovely honey coloured Walnut burl which has been ‘book leaf’ matched so as to form a symmetrical pattern on the table top.
The top is rectangular in form with rounded front corners and opens by lifting the top and swiveling until into position and laying it on the apron which has a concealed storage compartment. When opened the table reveals a baize lined inset playing surface. The apron has a decorative lower molding and a quality central decorative carving in the French manner.
The table is supported on a superbly turned and boldly carved embellished column. From the vertical cylindrical base flow four shaped carved embellished and tapered cabriole legs with boldly foliate carved knees plus scrolled feet and carved toes. The table still has its original all brass castor assemblies beneath.
Condition: Excellent for age. The original baize fabric is worn however we can have it replaced if required with top quality imported English baize which is available in a range of colours.
