This is a high end example of a mid 1800s genuine antique English Victorian period Card and games table.
The attractive shaped top is multiple lobed with an attractive perimeter edge molding.The hinged top lifts swivels and folds over to rest on the freeze or apron section which reveals a concealed compartment for storing playing cards and games pieces. When opened the table reveals a baize lined playing surface with a broard figured Walnut border. When closed the top and apron are finished in quality Walnut burl selected for its most attractive figuring and this is highly noticable on the table top as the Walnut figured patern is Book leaf matched for an even patern and dramatic effect.
The apron is shaped so as to compliment the shape of the overhanging top when closed.
The table is supported on an unusual solid Walnut cluster of columns comprising of four shaped and upward tapered support columns. These support columns rise from an upright cylindrical base which is embellished with bold applied carvings of fruit and leavesnot just on the front but on the back as well. Rising fgrom the top of the base is an impressive and boldly turned finial.
The table stands on four shaped and tapered solid Walnut cabriole legs which are folate carved near the base and terminate in nicely scrolled feet which have beneath the original brass and white porcelain castor assemblies.
Condition: Desirable very good near original condition. The woven woolen baize may be easily replaced in the colour of your choice and if required and any age related minor imperfections can easily be professionally attended to.
